Opt For These Safety Measures to Avoid Contracting Coronavirus

The coronavirus has affected the whole world and more so when it comes to the United States. This new coronavirus is now officially known as SARS-CoV-2, and the WHO has declared it a pandemic. This is the virus that leads to the disease COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 19). As time has progressed this threat has become more widespread, so it is important for you to take all safety measures to avoid contracting coronavirus.

When you understand the spread and reach of this virus, you will see that the biggest challenge that you need to overcome is to flatten the curve. Whether it is a California medical clinic or a big hospital all of them will give you the same advice, quarantining is the key to making it through this pandemic.

Safety measures to prevent COVID-19

Just like the other coronaviruses, this one can also survive in the air. Basically, it can spread through the respiratory vapor, for example, if someone sneezes or coughs near you. It can survive in the air. It can also be spread if an infected person coughs or sneezes into their hand and then touches a “high-source” surface. The virus survives on the surfaces for enough time to infect the next person who comes in contact with that surface. And even if you do not have symptoms of this virus, you can still pass on the virus to someone else. So, you must take all the precautions possible to save yourself as well as others. In this article, we are going to discuss the safety measure that you can take to protect yourself from the COVID-19. So, let’s get into it.

    Wash Your Hands Frequently

Use warm water and soap to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds. This is especially compulsory after coming back from a public place. Rub your hands thoroughly and work the lather to your wrists, clean well between your fingers and under your fingernails. Also, make sure that you wash your hands after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. For better cleansing use an antibacterial or antiviral soap.

If there is no soap and water readily available, use a hand sanitizer. Just ensure that the sanitizer has 60 percent alcohol. Washing your hands with soap and water or a hand sanitizer that contains 60 percent alcohol can kill viruses that your hands may have. To be safe, ensure you wash your hands several times a day, especially when you touch any surface. Try to not touch your eyes, nose, and mouth without washing your hands.

    Avoid Touching Your Face

You can get the virus on your hands after touching an infected surface. The COVID-19 can survive on a hard surface for up to 72 hours. Touching a doorknob, your cell pump, or gas pump handle can get the virus on your hands.

So, you have to avoid touching any part of your face or head. Parts like mouth, nose, and eyes are the places through which the infection enters your body. And if you have a habit of biting your fingernails, it’s time to stop doing that. Time has come to listen to your mom’s advice of not biting your fingernails.

Cover Your Mouth and Nose When You Sneeze Or Cough

This one is very important to stop the spread of the COVID-19. When you cough or sneeze, this virus can be carried by air droplets to the people near you. The virus can also land on hard surfaces, where it can survive for up to 72 hours.

So, make sure that you use a cloth or tissue to cover your face when coughing or sneezing. If you don’t have a cloth or tissue with you, use the inside of your elbow. Once you have used the tissue, immediately throw it in the trash. And whenever you sneeze or cough, wash your hands right away with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. You can also use a hand sanitizer (that contains 60 percent alcohol) if you can find soap and water.

    Clean And Disinfect Surfaces

As I mentioned above, this virus can stay on surfaces for up to 72 hours, so it becomes important to clean and disinfect the surfaces that you touch frequently. Use an alcohol-based disinfectant to clean the surfaces in your houses, such as countertops, light switches, doorknobs, faucets, toilets, sinks, furniture, toys, and door handles. You should also clean your laptop, mobile phone, and other stuff that you regularly use in a day.

You can also use soap or detergent and water to clean the surfaces before using the disinfectant. And do not forget to disinfect the area where you bring your groceries or other packages into your home. Clean every dirty surface and disinfect it.

    Maintain Social Distancing

You must avoid any close contact with people who are sick. You must follow social distancing and stay at home as much as possible. This is especially important when you go out to buy groceries or necessities, keep a distance of 6 feet from other people. This virus can even be transmitted by speaking to people who are in close contact with you. People who do not show symptoms can also be carriers of the virus. So, it is important that you maintain a certain physical distance from people.

Do Not Eat Or Drink In Public Places

It is important that you control your cravings for going out to eat. Avoid restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and other places to eat. The virus can be easily transmitted through high contact items like food, dishes, cups, and utensils. There is also the probability that you might sit too close to an infected person and end up getting the infection. If you are someone who lives on takeout, ensure that you thoroughly clean the package when it arrives at your doorstep as well as maintain distance from the person bringing it.

    Wash Fresh Groceries

Whenever you bring fresh groceries, make sure to soak all raw, whole fruits and vegetables in water. You can also use white vinegar to soak them. After soaking them, let them dry before you put them in the fridge or cupboard. And do not forget to wash your hands before and after handling groceries.

Another great option to clean fruits and vegetables is an antibacterial wash which is widely available in supermarkets.

    Wear A (Homemade) Mask

As recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), everyone must wear a cloth face mask when going out in public where it may be difficult to maintain social distancing. For example, when you are going to a grocery store, you must wear this mask.

Using the mask correctly can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 as when an infected person breathes, coughs, or sneezes the virus particles spread all around. It is easy enough to make your own mask if you don’t want to go out and buy one.
