2 Anti-ageing Tips for Your Skin

Ageing is inevitable. However, you can slow down the ageing process by incorporating some simple routines in your daily life which will help to make your skin look healthy and younger.

Wash Your Face with a Gentle Face Wash

It's extremely important to cleanse your skin every night as it not only removes any skin products or makeup that you may have applied but as well as natural skin oils, bacteria, dust and dirt that may have accumulated throughout the day.

To cleanse, using a gentle cleanser that preserves the natural skin barrier and won't dehydrate or damage your skin. Do not use natural soaps or cleansers with a high pH as they are very harsh and can cause skin irritation and make your skin susceptible to infection. Also make sure to avoid cleansers with ingredients such as sodium lauryl sulfate as it is extremely harsh.

The best cleansers for daily use would be those with a low pH which works to maintain an optimal skin balance. For example, you can try out the gentle low pH good morning gel cleansers by COSRX (from amazon) for as low as $8.40. COSRX stands for "cosmetics" and "prescriptions". Their low pH (5.30 ± 1.00) good morning gel cleanser contains Styrax Japonicus Branch/Fruit/Leaf extract is gentle on the skin and highly effective in cleansing the excess sebum that builds up on the skin throughout the day. It contains BHA (Betaine Salicylate) that is mild on the skin and refines skin texture by gently removing impurities from skin pores, as well as tea tree oil ingredients to help soothe irritated skin. You can use it both in the morning and night. Best of all, it does not contain SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) and is suitable for all skin types.

    Are toners necessary?

Toners were originally developed to restore the low pH condition of the skin after washing with a high pH cleanser. So, if you are already using a low pH cleanser there is no need to use a toner anymore.

    Exfoliate Physically or Chemically

With ageing, the skin turnover rate slows down, which basically means that dead skin cells are not replaced as frequently leading to the skin looking dull and uneven. The skin may even crack because of this. This is where exfoliants come in which help to get rid of the dead cells off your skin.

Exfoliants are mainly two types: physical and chemical. Do not use harsh physical exfoliants such as sugar scrubs or cleansers with beads as they make your skin susceptible to sagging. Instead use a physical exfoliant that is mild on the skin, such as a soft sponge like the MY Konjac Sponge ($9.87 on Amazon). MY Konjac Sponge is a 100% all natural sponge with activated charcoal that removes dead cell, excess oil and clear pores.

Chemical exfoliants work by slowly dissolving the bond between skin cells so that they get detached. The best chemical exfoliants are those containing alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) like glycolic acid and lactic acid. We recommend you try out the Paula's Choice 8% AHA Gel Exfoliant which contains glycolic acid ($10 on Amazon). It is non-abrasive and gently removed dead cell naturally revealing the radiance hidden underneath.
