Spend Two-Hours A Week in Nature to Improve Your Health

Recent study found that going for a hike can be good for your health! But this is not something new. We all know that nature is good for us. That is why we often go for vacations in beautiful natural places. The question we have to ask however, is how much time do we need to spend in nature to be healthier? That is exactly what the researchers in the United Kingdom tried to answer.

So, How Much Time Do You Need to Spend in Nature

In a recently published research, around 19,000 people in the United Kingdom were surveyed regarding the time they spend in nature during the past week, along with their self-reported health and well-being.

The researchers found that those who spend at least 120 minutes a week in nature saw a significant improvement in their mental and physical health compared to those who didn't spend any time. The benefit is similar to those who meet the guidelines for physical activity.

The researchers found that taking short walks near home were just as effective as a longer hike in nature. Similar other studies have found that even small trips to nature can provide health benefits. For example, one study found that just five minutes of exercise in nature can boost someone's self-esteem and mood.

    Why is the Finding Important?

In today's world, where time is money, people often find it hard to balance their work and personal life. As such any nature guideline should provide a minimum amount of time that people should be spending in nature, and that people will benefit more with greater amount of time. You do not need to spend two hours in one-go. Instead you can break it down in small bits over the week and it will still benefit you!.

    Beyond Physical Benefits

Being in nature will definitely help to get people more physically active. However, some studies found that even just sitting idle in nature, such as the Japanese forest bathing can help to improve your health! Nature provides a exit from our tiring work-life schedule. Activities such as driving, working long hours on the computer tires us down mentally and nature can help to restore our focus and mental health.

    Conclusion

In summary, spend at least 2 hours of quality time with nature per week. It can be in short bouts but it will still have the same benefit. Notice the birds flying around, the leaves rustling and take a few deep breaths. You will certainly benefit from your interaction with the nature because that is how we evolved!

    That's all for today!
