7 Natural Remedies to Whiten Stained Teeth at Home

Teeth discoloration is the common cosmetic dental problem most people are encountering with. Such stained or yellow colored teeth may occur genetically. Habits like smoking, drinking wines also leave their mark as a stained layer over the teeth. Likewise, heavy consumption of beverages like tea, coffee and other sugary drinks also end in yellowish teeth.

Apart from the stains and discolorations, a tooth appears yellow when the enamel is eroded and expose the underlying dentin layer which looks yellow in color.

The discolorations on the teeth can be effectively expelled with professional teeth whitening treatments. The dental bleaching products available in pharmacies and drug store also do the same job but the chemical compounds and ingredients present in them are quite harmful.

The simple ways which are natural and safe to restore the lost charm of pearly white teeth are explained here.

    Make Baking Soda Paste

Baking soda is quite abrasive and can efficiently remove the stains and plaque deposition on the teeth. Many toothpastes have come with this ingredient because of its natural whitening properties. It makes an alkaline environment inside the mouth and stops the breeding of oral bacteria.

Mix one teaspoon of baking soda with two teaspoons of water to prepare baking soda paste. Use this mixture instead of tooth powder or toothpaste to brush your teeth. The mixture of baking soda and lemon juice is also powerful in whitening the teeth, plaque removal and tooth decay prevention. Adding a crushed strawberry in the place of lime juice is also quite powerful.

    Oil Pulling

Oil Pulling is the term of removing stains, bacteria and other harmful microbes inside the mouth by mouth rinsing with oil.

Pour one teaspoon of oil in the mouth and swirl it around the mouth for a minimum 20 minutes. Then spit it out. The discharged fluid extracts the bacteria, stain-causing agents present inside the mouth. After spitting the oil, thorough brushing and mouth rinsing is needed.

Coconut oil is highly recommended because it contains lauric acid which is powerful to prevent the growth of bacteria. Sesame oil and Sunflower oil can also be utilized for this mouth cleaning action. If a person does the practice for more than 15 days, then he/she can notice the lightening of the teeth color.

    Brush with Turmeric Powder Paste

Similar to baking soda paste, brushing teeth with turmeric powder paste also whitens the teeth. Turmeric Powder is abrasive and can scrub the tooth stains in an adequate manner. Likewise, it has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties which make brushing with turmeric paste provide a germ-free environment to the mouth.

Mix a few drops of water to one teaspoon of organic turmeric powder. Brush the teeth with this mixture of 2 minutes and then rinse your mouth. It is better to brush the teeth with regular toothpaste after this procedure.

Dentists recommend being careful while applying this paste as an excess of turmeric powder will wear down the enamel and cause teeth sensitivity.

Homemade whitening toothpaste with essential oils

Mix 3 teaspoon of baking soda with 3 teaspoons of organic coconut oil and stir up well until they get blended. Then add 1 teaspoon of calcium carbonate powder and xylitol powder. Now add 20-25 drops of cinnamon bark oil and Peppermint oil. Stir the mixture until getting the consistency of regular toothpaste.

Both the mint oil and xylitol provide a pleasant taste to the paste. The anti-microbial properties of the essential oils will clean the teeth and recover the teeth's natural whitish color.

    Use Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen is an antiseptic which can kill bacteria and prevent bacterial growth. It is a mild bleach and has cleansing properties. Hence it is added as an ingredient along with baking soda in mouthwashes and Toothpaste. Dentists reveal that toothpaste with 1% hydrogen peroxide and 1% baking soda can effectively whiten the teeth.

Similar to baking soda toothpaste, preparing hydrogen peroxide toothpaste is also quite easy. Add 2 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide with one teaspoon of baking soda and use the mixture to brush the teeth. The whitening result of this remedy can be seen after some weeks. While preferring toothpaste and mouthwashes that contain hydrogen peroxide, make sure the cleaning products contain only 1.% or 3% of hydrogen peroxide because the excess of this substance will irritate gum tissues and cause teeth sensitivity.

    Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar contains a high amount of acetic acid, minerals, enzymes and probiotics along with the bleaching properties. The organic components present in the fluid are powerful to encounter the harmful microorganisms present in the mouth and remove the stains.

Remember that the frequent use of apple cider vinegar will erode the teeth enamel. Hence it is better to dilute apple cider vinegar with water and rinse the mouth with the solution.

Take a cup of water. Add 2 to 3 drops of apple cider vinegar to it and mix the solution well. Swish the mouth for a least 2 minutes with the solution and spit it out. Daily mouth rinsing with such diluted apple cider vinegar solution will whiten the discolored teeth.

    Use fruit Peels

The peel of fruits like banana, lemon, orange have substances that are available in the commercial teeth whitening products.

Ripe the skin of any one of the mentioned products. Sprinkle some sea salt on the inner side of the peel. Then scrub the salt sprinkled peel over the teeth for 2 minutes. The practice in a longer run will expel the stains and other discoloring agents stick to the teeth surfaces.

The sparkling white smile cannot be restored with the natural remedies alone. Adjusting the diet with pineapple, apple, strawberry and other fruits along with evading stain, sugary food & drinks are also necessary needed. Remember that the teeth whitening remedies and treatments will remain neutral without proper mouth cleaning activities. It is important to maintain an effective oral hygiene routine with proper brushing, flossing, mouth rinsing after every meal, Chewing sugarless gums.
